"Plumes et Grelots” or “Feathers and Bells.” A gorgeous carré was designed by Julie Abadie, and was originally issued as part of the Hermès 1995/96 Autumn/Winter Collection. Her design depicts the wonderfully elaborate sleighs created for the pleasure of royalty in 17th and 18th century Europe, where they were used also in parades and races. This design was reissued as part of the 1997/98 Autumn/Winter Collection. The attached short white fabric/care label (photo 9) dates this scarf as a 1997/1998 reissue, the first years Hermès used the short white fabric/care label which was used until this year.
This scarf is also extra special, as it is made from coveted Hermès woven Jacquard silk. When you wear a Jacquard, the designs woven into the silk catch and reflect the light. For this design, holly leaves and berries woven into the silk will shimmer. Hermès ceased weaving Jacquard silk around 2002, finding the process too expensive to produce, until Hermès issued a few designs on Jacquard silk with the woven bee design for the its 2017 spring/summer collection. Hermès' 15 year hiatus from issuing Jacquard silk designs has made Hermès Jacquard silk carrés very rare and collectible, and whose value will surely increase in the future.
The colorway is comprised of a chocolate brown border in which silver sleigh bells are nestled surrounding an eggshell background with design details rendered in yellow gold, antique gold, chestnut, light blue plus coral, cocoa, cobalt blue, copper and sage accents.
