"Les Fetes du Roi Soleil " or " The Celebrations of the Sun King," was designed by Michel Duchène (his signature is highlighted in photo 4) and issued by Hermès as part of its 1994/1995 Autumn/Winter Collection. This design is an homage to the French "Sun King," Louis the XIV and an array of elegant costumes worn in the regal parades and pageants of the day. The design was reissued in 1997. This scarf is an original issue.
This scarf is also extra special, as it is made from coveted jacquard silk with the woven Hermès fireworks design. Hermès no longer produces jacquard silks, finding them too expensive to produce today. This fact makes Hermès jacquard silk carrés very rare and collectible and whose value will surely increase in the future. When ones wears a jacquard, the designs woven into the silk will shimmer when they catch the light.
The colorway is white with the design details rendered in crimson, royal blue, greys, emerald and apple greens with touches of yellow and pink and browns.
This scarf is in vintage 8+ near pristine, lightly worn and well maintained condition (see our condition scale for reference). The are no stains , spots, holes, snags or thread runs. The hems are intact and round. The fabric/care label is attached. The silk has retained some crispness with a smooth vintage feeling hand. The colors are fresh and vivid. The scarf measures approximately 35.5" x 34.75" (90cm x 88.3cm).
A scarf for all seasons, it will work well with primary colored outfits in green, red and blue plus white and black, of course. Comes in its Hermès box which has a bit of storage damage on one corner.
