“Sichuan” is a beloved design by French wildlife artist, Robert Dallet, and was first issued by Hermès as part of the 1995 spring and summer collection. The design depicts per Histoires de Carres: "According to the Chinese axiom, 'everything which grows in China, grows in Sichuan'. Between the high mountain ranges wreathed in mist and its deep valleys crossed by many waters, the fertile region shelters numerous species. The azure-winged magpie lives beside the squirrel, the multi-colored bird watches the wild cat, monkeys bustle about in the foliage, while the sheep grow up undisturbed, because for the snow leopard, the time has come to nurse its young." The design was reissued in spring/summer of 1997, autumn/winter of 2002/2003 as a 90cm cashmere silk and in autumn/winter of 2010/2011. The attached fabric/care label dates this carré as an original 1995 issue.
The stunning colorway is comprised of a royal blue border surrounding a design rendered in greens, sky blue, white, camel, fawn, teal and midnight blue, grey, black, red and gold.
This carré is in vintage 10, new in box without shop tag condition (see our condition scale for reference). The hems are round, plump, intact and tight. The fabric/care label is attached. There are no stains, spots, holes, thread snags or thread runs. The silk is crisp, thick and fresh with a smooth hand. The scarf has some shallow storage creases. The scarf measures 35.25" x 35" (89.5cm x 88.9cm).
This is a fabulous beloved design and colorway to own to wear and show. It comes with its original Hermès gift box.
