Details
  • “Samourai” by Hermès’ artist, Zoe Pauwels. It was issued as part of the Hermès’ 1991 Spring/Summer collection, and has never been reissued.

Pauwel’s design depicts a mounted Japanese samourai warrior. From the 1991 Spring/Summer Hermès scarf booklet: "Every country satisfies our desire for the picturesque with one symbolic figure, as does the English gentleman or the Spanish toreador, the Samourai has great meaning for us. The one who rides here belongs to the virile age when the Tokugawa lords reigned over ancient Tokyo. He is surrounded by four maewa (the front part of the saddle), dating from the height of the Shogun era. Let's salute this warrior with all the respect that prudence demands."

This scarf has a wonderful colorway - white background with marigold borders and venetian red, Yale blue, camel, sage, maroon, silver gray and black details.

This scarf is in excellent vintage 7+ well cared for condition (see our condition scale for reference). There are no no stains, spots, discolorations holes thread snags or thread runs. The fabric/care label is present. The silk has a soft hand and drapes beautifully. The hems are intact, round and plump. Previous owner had it professionally dry cleaned. The scarf measures 35.5"" x 34.25" (90cm x 89.6cm).

This 25 year old vintage scarf is in wonderful condition. Make it yours. Sorry, no box comes with this scarf, but be assured, we will carefully pack and pad it for shipping.
