"Mexique" or "Mexico" is a design by long time Hermès artist, Caty Latham, whose creative output at Hermès began in 1965 covered over 45 incredible years and produced over 54 carre̒ designs. Her fesign for "Mexique" was inspired by Mexico's Mayan culture, sculpture and jewelry. This design was first issued by Hermès in 1985 as part of its spring/summer collection. It was reissued a year later as part of the 1986/1987 autumn/winter collection, and again as part of the 1991/1992 autumn/winter collection. This scarf is a 1991/1992 reissue. This design, to date, has never been reissued, and, as a consequence is becoming rare and sought after by Hermès collectors.
The colorway is comprised of a sage border surrounding a laurel geen background with design details rendered in golds, turquoise, white and silver.
This rare, 25+ year old scarf is in a vintage 9 out of 10, rarely used, well cared for condition (see our condition scale for reference). There are no stains, spots, holes, thread snags or thread runs. The hems are intact, round and plump. The silk is crisp and thick with a smooth hand. The fabric/care label is attached. This scarf measures 35" x 35" (88.9cm x 88.9cm).
