An authentic, rare, very collectible, vintage Hermès silk scarf “ La France Hippique 1854" or "The Horses of France 1854" by the artist Lenke Szechenzyl. Issued in 1960, the design depicts various breeds of horses from the different regions of France. The Hermès copyright "c" symbol is hidden in the design underneath the Hermès banner (see photo 3).
The colorway is comprised of a navy blue and claret border with a creamy white background with silver, light sage green, ecru, and deep claret red, midnight blue and plum colored flowers with camel, bronze and light yellow accents.
This lovely 57 year old carré is in excellent near pristine, lightly used 8 vintage condition (see our condition scale for reference) with two faint, discreet ink marks (see photos 6 and 7). Said marks should never be conspicuous when worn or shown. There are no holes, thread snags or thread runs. The silk is crisp and thick with a smooth hand. Colors are still vibrant. The hems are intact, still reasonably plump and round. The fabric/care label has been gently removed. This scarf measures approximately 35.5" x 34.5" (90cm x 87.6cm).
